About the project

The brief and the answer

The Export Support Centre helps companies from the Kaliningrad Region reach foreign markets. The brief was put to us plainly: make a dynamic, bright, lightly funny film about a serious centre for serious business people. We dropped the studio set-up and shot everything inside working production sites — the AQWELLA plant and the workshops of the Baltic Forest Company. The central device is typography over the image: the names of the countries the products travel to land directly on the faces of the people who make them — “Iran”, “China”, “the CIS”. Then the centre’s services settle onto the footage — finding business partners, arranging negotiations, business missions, training events — while an animated map traces the export routes between scenes. The foreign entrepreneur is played by an actor; every other role is performed by the centre’s staff and the factory workers themselves. Two weeks passed from the brief to the finished film.
