Who said amber is only worn by women of a certain age?
About the project
The brief and the answer
Who said that amber is only worn by women of a certain age? That question was the brief: make a television commercial for the jewellery studio DARVIN after which amber stops reading like something out of a grandmother’s jewellery box. We took the entire shoot out onto the Baltic coast and never built a single studio frame. The model moves through pine forest, dry dune grass, moss on fallen trunks, reeds and a beach in rough weather, and at the end she walks straight into the sea. The looks change with the place: yellow silk on a green slope, a white swimsuit on the sand, black chiffon against a blue sky, a brown dress in bleached grass. And the jewellery never once sits on a velvet cushion — the bib necklace, the long amber chains, the wide cuffs and rings all live on a person, in motion, in daylight, so amber works not as an heirloom but as a colour: warm gold on tanned skin, among the greenery and beside grey water. The film opens and closes on the DARVIN Jewelry logo. And after this shoot, as we like to joke, Dior and Chanel put amber into their own collections.
