The girls versus the boys
A sketch that spends its first seconds pretending to be a very different film
1 / 3 The girls versus the boys
About the project
The brief and the answer
Our second piece for the Polish Football Team — another comic sketch, this one built on a bait and switch. The opening seconds look like a completely different video: neon light, close-ups of lips and hands, an unbuttoned shirt, smouldering looks — an imitation of an intimate mood, designed so that a young viewer will not scroll past. Then the camera pulls back and it turns out the three men on the sofa have noticed none of it: they are playing Football Team on a tablet. The women try everything to be noticed and finally give in — by the end the whole party is crowded around a single screen. The film closes on the same shot of a football pitch it opened with, now carrying the Football Team logo. Two weeks passed from the brief to the finished piece.

Backstage
Two run-throughs before the shooting day
Before we went to set, the film was rehearsed twice. First as a drawn animatic: the storyboard came alive with timecode and camera-move arrows, so the running time and the rhythm were settled before casting. Then as a pre-shoot: the Franema crew played and filmed the entire script themselves in their own office — same tablet, same end card. By the shooting day all that was left was to repeat what had already worked twice.
