The brief and the answer

Rosgosstrakh is a serious corporation, and internal videos at companies like that usually look the part. The Kaliningrad branch asked for something else and, more importantly, gave us a free hand. The result is five and a half minutes of cinema about the people who ride up to the top floors of the same office block every morning. It opens on the facade: the camera travels along the glass wall and the whole branch is visible at once, cell by cell, like a cross-section of a doll’s house. Then come the portraits. Everyone looks straight down the lens: one smiles from her desk, another mists the office palms, another talks on the phone without letting go of the duster in her other hand, another sits at the shared kitchen table with a branded mug. Between the portraits run department captions — “dealer relations”, “financial institutions”, “other partners” — and on the fourth the joke lands: “Headstone protection cover — only at Rosgosstrakh!”. A few shots took real green-screen work: an employee in a hard hat and hi-vis vest stands in the middle of a derelict factory, while a colleague in a hairnet, mask and disposable poncho turns up in the corridor of a spaceship. Another carries the corporate flag the length of the open-plan floor and plants it at the panoramic window. The music is played by the band NOUADE, right there in the office in front of the wall logo reading “1921. Always with the country”, and that performance runs under the end credits. And in those credits is the entire branch, thirty-one people, with exactly the same name printed against every role: all of them playing themselves. Whether the branch went on to win the internal competition we would not like to claim. But they do have a film now.
