About the project
The brief and the answer
Football Team is a Polish football manager game played on a phone. This is the third film we shot for the company in the Kaliningrad region, and all of it fits into one apartment and one unbroken take. The camera starts on a close-up of our hero calmly finishing his match and slowly pulls back — and as the frame widens, so does the catastrophe: the stove bursts into flame behind him, his wife fights the fire with an extinguisher, his daughter drags a side table with a plant out of harm’s way, a drone buzzes across the kitchen, smoke swallows the room, and in the end firefighters break in with axes. He never once looks up — that is the whole joke. The fire, smoke and destruction were built as practical effects on set and extended in graphics, with serving officers of the Russian Emergencies Ministry both keeping the shoot safe and appearing on camera.

Backstage
The film was built in 3D first
Choreography like this is not invented on set: too many people, too much fire and smoke have to land inside one continuous camera move. So we assembled the entire film as a 3D previs first — the same pull-back, the same entrances, the same timing. The crew and the pyrotechnicians arrived with an exact plan: who steps into frame on which second, and where the camera is at that moment.
