The brief and the answer

The Cathedral asked for a promo film for “Kant and his city of peace”, a guided tour written by one of their own — and gave us a week for all of it. There was nothing to film and no time to film it, so we did not film at all: the whole piece is assembled as a paper collage. The set is an old globe on a wooden stand and layers of faded Königsberg maps, and everything else is cut out and laid on top: an engraving of Kant, a paper silhouette of the cathedral, cotton-wool clouds, a pocket watch on its chain, and little cards with torn edges carrying hand-lettered text. The camera never cuts — it travels through the layers in parallax, as if you were leafing through an atlas — and a dashed route line runs across the frame throughout, the kind that marks a journey on an old map. Frame by frame, everything a visitor needs assembles itself: the great philosopher’s place of power, his routes and discoveries on the streets of Königsberg, Sunday at 16:00 — and the globe at the end carrying the address sobor39.ru. The only “actor” in the film is an engraved portrait of Kant, which is exactly how we credited him.
