About the project

The brief and the answer

How do you describe everything the Ministry of Youth Policy of the Kaliningrad Region does in one video? Good question — so instead of listing programmes and counting metrics, we decided to show people. The film runs as one stream of stories: volunteers delivering groceries and buzzing intercoms, a search unit marching by a memorial, someone getting into a kayak for the first time, someone painting through the night in a studio, someone on stage with a microphone, someone on a train with a student work brigade, someone stepping behind the counter of a coffee shop. It opens with a question typed into a line — “#molod39 Who are we?” — and ends with the answer “Feel it”: there is no need to list the programmes if you can live through them in a minute forty-five.

Backstage

First we shot the entire film on phones

Before the main shooting day we assembled the whole piece as a test: the same scenes in the same order, filmed on phones by the crew itself. A pre-shoot like this shows you well before the set what works and what falls apart — where a story reads without words, where a transition is missing, how long each episode actually runs. We arrived on set with an edit already proven.
