The brief and the answer

The Centre for the Development of Gifted Children is a place where children and teenagers can pick up a whole spectrum of skills. How do you show all of that in one film? For our talented professionals that is not a question: the film is built entirely in a graphic space. Misha and his family — his mother, his father and his grandfather — are pulled one by one into worlds, each standing for a different discipline: a low-poly meadow with giant plants, a cartoon with a drawn character among cacti, a purple crystal canyon, a neon club with a synth and speakers, a game dungeon where the tag MISHA_MISHA floats above the hero, a classical garden of marble statues, and a film stage with lightsabers. All of it was shot on chroma key: the only real things in frame are the people. Before the shoot the whole film was blocked out in 3D — the previz with its timecode is below, along with the green-screen rehearsals and the backstage from the set.
