The brief and the answer

Our first film for Football Team, the Polish football manager played on a phone or a laptop. The brief had three parts: explain the game through a scripted film, deliver the whole project remotely (this was lockdown, the client’s office was in Poland and we never met in person) and shoot it in Kaliningrad to keep the budget down. Everything hangs on one reversal. A schoolboy in a blazer and tie is tearing into his team in a real football dressing room — ball under his arm, arms flying, the exact register of a coach at half-time. The camera pulls back and the “team” turns out to be seven ordinary adults sitting on the benches with laptops and tablets, each with a gamer tag and a squad number floating above them: #13 K_I_N_G, #28 КирПИ4, #09 ОпА$нЫй, #27 АвтоБОТ_90, #66 LиSичка, #18 РаЧОК. There is no dressing room at all — the boy is simply typing into the squad chat. And when a new member, SuperKiller1970, asks to join the club, the film cuts to who that really is: his dad, with a phone, in their own kitchen. Shot at the Yantarny arena in Kaliningrad; a month from brief to finished film.
